I remember that when I was six I stood in the assembly queue at school every morning and tried to cheat the class teacher by flowing in the rhythm of "Indian pledge". I never knew the exact words nor the exact lip movements to save my tiny backyard from brutal beating of the bamboo sticks. And to my wonder it seemed every other breathing organism in the assembly knew the Pledge, since the time they got detached from umblical cord. It might have been wired into their brain then. Anyways I do remember the few lines which went like this "India is my country and all indians are my brothers and sisters blah blah....". India is my country, I respect that part, I am born here, its mine, America is Chintu's, Pakistan is Pintu's and India is mine. Agreed, so don't fight for it. But, the second line was real disturbing. "All Indians are my brothers and sisters". For God sake don't say that! All Indians..aaaall, are you sure about it? Technically a blunder, how could my Father be my brother? Or for that case, my grandpa, he never said he was my brother. And the worse, you mean to say the beautiful little girl in the class, was my sister. Give me a break!

By 'brothers and sisters' perhaps they wanted to refer to the idea of 'bhaichara'.. :P
ReplyDeleteAnyways.. What I wonder more is even if they scripted a pledge to be taken by all the citizens, it should have been a one time affair, y again and again and again ..repeating same stuff :)
exactly...aur phir ek gunah ki kitni baar saza ho sakti hai....why thrash everyday?
